Audacity basic editing

What?

If you followed the first post in this series, you already know how to record and upload from Audacity to Audioboo.fm. Now it’s time to go a little further and tweak your audio a bit.

Why?

Editing your audio recordings in Audacity couldn’t be simpler and allows you not only to clip and rearrange things but also to play around with tempos and effects. Whatever topic you are doing with your class, Audacity has a built in effect to suit. Let the children get their hands on it and you’ll be amazed what they come up with (as usual!)

How?

Basic editing in Audacity is almost as easy as it is in a word processor. If you can select, copy, cut, paste etc. in a word processor then you’ll be able to in Audacity.

With just a few further clicks you can start to alter the sound you have recorded in very dramatic ways.

Here’s a bit more on editing and adding effects:

@2SimpleAnt did some great work some time ago with Audacity in Redbridge. Expand Redbridge – Redbridge Primary School – Stories in languages of the world to hear some great Audacity recordings which are also fantastic EAL resources!

Whatever the topic your class is working on, they will be able to use Audacity to create some quick and easy sound effects to go with it.

If you or your class come up with any interesting Audacity effects, let me know and I’ll add them to this post.
